Scissor lift rental near Houston

A scissor lift raises a flat platform straight up on crossing supports. The deck is bigger than a boom basket and carries more people and material, so it is the usual choice for ceiling, duct and racking work in warehouses, stores and offices. Below are the sizes, limits and prices behind that choice.

Electric or rough terrain

Electric scissor lifts are battery powered, quiet and fume-free, which is why they dominate indoor work. Rough-terrain scissor lifts have bigger tires, four-wheel drive and usually a diesel engine, and they are meant for outdoor sites and new construction.

Neither type reaches sideways. If the work sits behind an obstacle, read about articulating booms instead.

Measured sizes by class

The 19-ft class lists a working height of 25 ft, six feet more than the platform. A 32-in-wide unit fits through a standard 36-in door with 2 in to spare each side. Measure the opening first.

Typical jobs

Choose a scissor lift when the work is straight overhead and the floor is flat.

  • Ceiling, light and sprinkler installation in stores, offices and warehouses.
  • Cable tray, ductwork and conduit runs.
  • Racking and shelving work in distribution centers.
  • Drywall, painting and finishing on tall interior walls.
  • Sign and camera maintenance over a level lot.

What it costs, and why sources disagree

One Houston guide gives scissor lift planning ranges of $100 to $350 a day and $320 to $1,260 a week. A marketplace page for 26 ft electric units in Houston shows an average of $284 a day and $648 a week. The two overlap but do not match, and both leave out delivery and fees.

For a fuller breakdown read the rental cost guide. Ask any yard for the all-in price, including delivery and pickup, before you agree.

Limits that surprise first-time renters

A scissor lift needs firm, level ground. Electric units concentrate their weight, with ground pressure figures of 112 to 224 psi on the sheets above, so a thin slab or a patched floor can be a problem. Ask the building owner about floor loading.

Rental pages list lanyard attachment points on these machines, and some sites require a harness in the platform. Your employer's safety plan decides that. The training guide explains who is responsible for what.

Common questions

Can a scissor lift go outdoors?

Electric models suit hard flat surfaces and sheltered work. For gravel or dirt, ask for a rough-terrain model. Wind limits apply to all of them.

How many people can the platform carry?

Rental pages say most scissor lifts hold around 1,000 pounds and rough-terrain ones around 2,250 pounds. The plate on the machine gives the exact rating.

Can I keep one for a week?

Yes. Day, week and four-week rates are common, and the daily cost falls as the term grows. Ask how the yard counts a week.

Does the floor need protection?

On finished floors, ask for non-marking tires and a way to keep the unit clean. Some cost guides list non-marking tires as a daily add-on.
