Boom lift rental in Katy, Texas

Katy started as a railroad town on the Missouri-Kansas-Texas line and a rice-farming area on the Buffalo Bayou floodplain. Houston grew west along Interstate 10, and the area now called Greater Katy is heavily built up. Its lift work follows the building: retail pads, subdivisions and very large distribution centers.

Construction at scale

The Katy area includes a one-million-square-foot distribution center built near Highway 90 and Woods Road, a Costco at the Grand Parkway and I-10, a large mall, and BP America's campus in the nearby Energy Corridor. That mix creates demand for tall reach and large decks: tilt-wall panels, steel, racking, sprinklers and light installation.

Warehouses with high clear heights often need a large telescopic boom outside and a stack of scissor lifts inside. Describe the ceiling height in feet, not in stories.

Fields, fill and floodplain

Parts of the area were rice farming land and prairie, and a fresh pad on any new site may sit on fill that stays soft. A heavy boom on soft ground is a common reason for a stuck machine. Ask the grading contractor about compaction, and read boom lift site requirements for the ground-bearing numbers.

Drainage ditches and detention ponds are everywhere. Tell the yard where the truck can turn around, and where it must not.

Postal address is not a city limit

Many homes and businesses carry a Katy address without being inside the city. A site can lie in Harris, Fort Bend or Waller County, each with its own roads and rules. Give the yard the street address and the cross streets. If you are not sure which county applies, say so.

Timing the delivery

I-10 can back up in both directions at rush hour. Plan the truck for mid-morning or midday, and allow time for a long trailer to turn into the site. Your contact should be on site when it arrives. Early starts for a crew only work if the machine is already unloaded.

Which safety office covers the site

Katy straddles three counties, and OSHA assigns them differently: Fort Bend County to its Houston South Area Office, Waller County to Houston North, and Harris County to both. If a question about which federal rule applies comes up on a job, the area office list on OSHA's site tells you where to call. The employer's own safety lead handles day-to-day decisions, as the operator training guide explains.

Common questions

How do I describe a warehouse ceiling?

Give the clear height to the underside of the roof structure, the aisle width and the floor type. A yard needs those three numbers before it names a machine.

What if my site is outside the city?

That is common near Katy. Just give the street address. Delivery depends on distance, not city limits.

Can a lift sit on new fill?

Only if the fill is compacted and dry. Ask the site contractor, and consider mats or plates.
