Boom lift rental in Baytown, Texas

Baytown lies east of Houston where the ship channel meets Galveston Bay. The ExxonMobil Baytown Complex, founded in 1919, is one of the largest industrial complexes in the world, and Covestro and Chevron Phillips Chemical run large plants nearby. Lift requests here are mostly turnaround and maintenance work on tall, crowded structures.

Turnarounds and tall structures

The city has created three industrial districts outside its limits for petroleum and petrochemical processing. Crews working there often need high reach for insulation, coating, inspection, valve work and structural repairs. During a planned turnaround, many contractors often compete for the same machines for the same weeks.

If you know a shutdown date, send the request early and say how long you need the lift. A yard can tell you whether the size is in stock and whether a larger machine needs notice for a special trailer.

Choosing the arm

A telescopic boom suits vessels, stacks and open structures where you can drive close. An articulating boom suits dense units where the basket must climb over equipment. Ask about the jib, the platform size and the basket capacity, because tools and welding gear add weight.

A long reach needs a firm pad. Ask the plant where a heavy machine may stand.

Wet, windy and exposed

Annual rainfall in Baytown is around 64 inches, which makes it one of the wetter cities in the lower 48, and hurricanes are a real risk in fall. Open bayfront sites catch strong gusts. One Genie boom manual says not to raise the boom when winds may exceed 28 mph. Your machine's manual gives its own limit. Keep a spare day in the schedule.

Getting to the gate

State Highway 146 crosses the ship channel on the Fred Hartman Bridge to La Porte, and Interstate 10 runs along the north side of the city. Plants post their delivery hours at the gate. Give the yard the gate number, the contact and any escort rule.

Outside the fence line

Baytown is also a city of more than 80,000 people, with retail centers, schools, churches and warehouses that need the same height work as anywhere else. Those jobs differ from plant work in one way: nobody checks your badge. The driver can unload at the curb, the lift can run on a parking lot, and a scissor lift or compact boom is usually enough. Say which kind of site it is on the request so the yard sends the right machine.

Portions of the city east of Cedar Bayou are in Chambers County, which OSHA assigns to its Houston South Area Office, while the rest lies in Harris County, which both Houston area offices cover.

Common questions

How early should I request a lift for a turnaround?

As soon as the dates are fixed. Large booms are few, and several contractors may want them in the same weeks.

Can the machine be used on gravel?

Rough-terrain models are built for it, but the yard still needs to know the surface and any soft spots. See the site requirements guide.

Who decides if wind is too high?

The machine's manual sets the limit, and your supervisor decides when to stop. If the platform is raised and the wind rises, lower it.
